Interested in e-books?

We are wondering whether there is much desire among our Library users for access to e-books (complete monograph titles in digital form). If we began collecting them, would you want to use them?

What factors would influence your decision? Perhaps you'd like our available e-books to be accessible through the Morton Library catalog, so you would find them included in any search along with print and media titles. You might want them to be usable on any Mac or PC, not on a specific reader device such as a Kindle or Nook. Probably, you'd like access to be free. Maybe it's important for you to be able to print or download portions of the text you're reading.

If you have an opinion about this, we'd like to hear from you. Comment here, send us an email, come by and talk to us about it -- we are interested in your views.

Ebooks would be a wonderful addition to Morton Library! It would be great if they had a search feature. The online PDFs for the Early Church Fathers at CCEL have such a feature. For example, when researching Augustine's view on Baptism you can search for the word "Baptism" in his writings and it will locate every place where "Baptism" is mentioned.

I can't swear to it, but I think that's pretty much standard for e-books sold to libraries. I really appreciate it, too! We are investigating vendors now, and we will be sure to ask about this feature.

E-books would be great, particularly if they were accessible off campus and/or after hours. They are much easier to carry around than a stack of books and would be much more environmentally friendly than making copies of texts.
