New books from our creative people !

We'd like to call your attention to some exciting book news involving several members of the UPSem community.

Dave Csinos (Th.M, 2010) published a new book last year which has been selected as "Best Book About Children's Ministry for 2013" by Hearts and Minds Books.  It's called Children's Ministry in the Way of Jesus  (IVP/Praxis).

Marilyn Johns (MACE, 1994), Director of Program Development in UPSem's Leadership Institute, has published Where Everybody Knows Your Name : Best Practices in the Small Church (VPS Press).

Andrew Taylor-Troutman (M.Div. 2009) has a forthcoming book, Parables of Parenthood : Interpreting the Gospels with Family (Wipf and Stock).  We'll feature this on our Library homepage as soon as we get a cover image.

It's wonderful that our alums and staff are doing so much to support congregations, children and families in their Christian life together.

New ILL request form

As you may know, we've had many problems with systems maintenance on our form for Interlibrary Loan requests.  So, we have created a new one.  The procedure is still very similar.

Before requesting an item, please be sure to search our catalog to determine whether the material you need is in our collection.  If we don't own it, we can try to borrow it for you from another library.
Click on the words ILL Form in the upper right corner of the catalog search screen.

First, fill in the required contact information.  Complete one form for each book or periodical article that you need. Be sure to scroll down to the bottom of the form and fill in the Verification box with any two digits (this helps to prevent "spambots" sending unwanted email to our ILL account). Then, click the Submit button.

When the item you requested has arrived, we will email you and let you know that you can come and pick it up at our Circulation Desk. If the item is in a digital format (an e-journal article, for instance), we will attach it to your email or provide an online link to it.

There is also a link on the ILL Form to our ILL FAQ page, providing detailed information about interlibrary loan policies and procedures. If you have any questions about this, please contact Lisa Janes, Public Services Specialist.

NEW mobile phone site for the Library

We are now testing a new UPSem Libraries mobile site, easily reachable from our homepage.  The new site is meant to supplement our Library websites with a simplified display of frequently-used information, in a format that is easy to read on a cellphone-sized screen.  Our Library homepage displays well on a tablet, but not on a smartphone, so this offers you an alternative when you are using your phone.

You'll find links to our Library catalog, our online databases (with their own simplified phone-sized interfaces), the Library hours in both Richmond and Charlotte, staff email and phone contacts, a blog page for news and announcements, and links to directions for reaching the Richmond or Charlotte campuses.

If you can think of information you’d like to see provided in a convenient form on the mobile site, please let us know. You can contact Paula Skreslet HERE.

For more complete information about the collections and services of our two library facilities, please consult the full websites of each library.

It's January term

Welcome back, everyone, from your Christmas and New Year's break.  The Library is open again according to regular term hours, and we're here to help.

J-term is short and moves very fast, so if you have papers or projects to create, it's best to get going as soon as possible.

For details on our open hours, click HERE.
